Tacoma Auxiliary Electrical System
Auxiliary electrical system designed and built to provide a flexible architecture to allow for a wide range of future modifications
Goals and Requirements
Auxiliary electrical system for aftermarket equipment
Isolated from the stock electrical system to reduce unintended impacts from potential failures
Provide an architecture that allows for additional modifications with a wide range of power requirements
Designed so that troubleshooting any issues that occur is as easy as possible
Don't set the truck on fire
**For informational purposes only. Fuse sizes and wire gauges were selected with specific design requirements, factor of safety, wire quality, wire lengths, and specific products in mind. Do not use as a source for your own project without doing your own calculations**
Design Considerations
Fully separate from the stock electrical system to protect normal function
Combined fuse/relay box not necessarily needed. Not all circuits will require a relay
100A Breaker rather than a fuse-able link allows for easily de-powering the circuit for maintenance
Split main fuse block allows for 6 circuits to be powered 24/7 while the other 6 are only powered after ignition
Dometic fridge requires intermittent power overnight to remain fully cold, rear panel with DC socket will allow for this as well as extra accessories
Re-working switch panel to have all switches on a separate circuit rather than being in series allows for better circuit protection
Most of the rear panel circuits will be exposed to the elements, more protection is necessary
Any accessories that have inline fuses should be rewired to use the main fuse block
Safer to have the fuse directly at the power source
Any failures can be quickly found
